DAY FIVE
Read Luke 22:31-38
Jesus’ explanation of “sift each of you like wheat” was saying that Satan had asked or permission to test each of the disciples in the most extreme way. Wheat was sifted through a sieve to separate the grain from the chaff and so likewise Satan was granted permission to put the disciples through a tough process of sifting and sorting - the ultimate testing.
Define Chaff in this “sifting process.”
NLT version says, “Simon, Simon..” (verse 31) Two words repeated in scripture is “warning.” And here we see Jesus calling him Simon, after his name had already been changed to Peter (Recorded in Matthew 16:18-19.)
Why do you think this is?
But Jesus gives Peter hope! What was this hope? (verse 32)
Even in our trials and suffering and even through the difficult process of testing, God is faithful and just. We go through trials and suffering, but notice that we don’t go IN them to stay. We go THROUGH them, which means there’s another side of suffering. And we do so in order to be refined and come out prepared to be used by God to encourage and strengthen others.
Although tempting with Peter was allowed by God, and it is so with us, Jesus contends for us, too, that we will not fail. Oh how good our Father is, and how watchful He is of our souls! Always making a way for us to overcome!
