2 Samuel 5, verses 17-21 tell the story of David defeating the Philistines. But not before he consults the Lord.
In verse 19 David wisely asks, "Should I go out to fight? Will you hand them over to me?"
Ahh... David always asks before he assumes that he knows what the Lord desires.
The Lord responds in the following verse with an answer. "Yes, go ahead. I will certainly hand them over to you."
A clear directive.
A definitive answer.
And I love David's response once victory was achieved. Verse 20 records David saying, "The Lord did it! He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!"
David had the presence of God with Him, which the previous King Saul had forfeited and lost. He waited until God moved... until he heard the voice of God... and then proceeded with brave determination.
I love that what we see here demonstrated is a 1.) Seeking of wise council, and 2.) A preparation for immediate obedience.
But I also love and appreciate David's resolution to return all of the glory to what he was able to witness God do through Him.
"He did it! He burst through!"
His recognition of God's divine power and goodness made a way for others to experience it for themselves.
It's never a matter that God has stopped doing... stopped being good... stopped providing in miraculous ways. It's a matter that we've stopped listening... stopped looking... stopped recording.
David understood that his life had been forever marked by God. He had a divine calling upon his life and had been branded by the Father for purpose. God stamped his life and the rest of David's life was living worthy of this stamping.
We are called to the same thing. To let our lives become a memorial of Divine power and goodness.
My life is to tell the story... His story.
What can I claim today?
"He did it! He burst through!"
